Learning to Listen

Be humble and realize that you can learn something from every. single. person. that you encounter in life.

Each of these women hired me for my branding expertise and graphic design abilities. However, Ive learned so much from them in terms of entrepreneurship, relationship building skills, compassion, humility, work ethic, the power of a good energy, leadership, and to not take yourself to seriously but rather find joy in each moment. Many of these traits are things you cannot learn the traditional textbook way... they aren't something you can buy- meaning you can't hire someone to teach you work ethic or humility (atleast that I know of). These are all traits that you develop organically throughout your life experiences. When you surround yourself with others that have attributes that you respect and admire, it gives you the opportunity to learn and grow through observing and listening to their experiences and overall outlook on life. If you know me then you probably know that Im quick to break the silence in a room and can be a bit chatty sometimes! 🤣🙊 It's a little more challenging for me to be a 'quiet observer', but its something I am working on because I've realized that if I'm always the one talking, then I'm not learning anything new. Id like to walk away from a conversation having learned something new rather than wondering, "What golden gems of information did I miss out on because I was too busy talking?" So yes, it's important to surround yourself with people that are smarter than you but that's only the first step... You then have to be disciplined enough to hold you're tongue so it opens the floor for them to share their perspectives, experiences, and knowledge. So next time you around someone you know you can learn from, instead of filling the room with your own random thoughts and opinions, be quiet and soak up the wealth of knowledge they bring to the table. xoxo Sharlotte
